Ruben (ATP-98) was not able to reach the final of the European Open in Antwerp. In the semifinal second seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (ATP-17) was too strong.
Ruben was immediately 0-2 behind, but fought back and cleared the early break. He showed some nice tennis, but the Frenchman was able to break him again. Ruben managed to save three setpoints, but eventually the set went to Tsonga 3-6.
In the second set, there were more errors in Ruben's game. Tsonga went broke the Belgian's service twice to win the set again with 3-6. The match lasted 1 hour and 13 minutes. However, Ruben was not too disappointed: "I had a wonderful week here, so I can leave for the next tournaments with a good feeling. But today, Tsonga was the better player. This semifinal is definitely an experience to take with me for the future, I have gained a lot of confidence this week."
Thanks to his strong performance, Ruben gets a special exempt and will be in action at the ATP tournament in Basel next week.
