Ruben upsets top seed in Happy Valley

Ruben (ATP-167) got his first scalp of 2017. At the Challenger tournament of Happy Valley, he knocked out the first seed Donald Young (ATP-88) in three exciting sets.

Ruben started the match well and one break was sufficient to win the first set 6-4. In the second set he played less convincing and Young took the set 2-6. In a thrilling third set the American survived six break points. A tiebreak had to bring the decision and Ruben got up to a quick lead. He finished the match at his first matchpoint, after a bit more than two hours the 6-4 2-6 7-6(3) final score was on the board.

In the second round Ruben will face Japanese qualifier Yasutaka Uchiyama (ATP-233). Ruben won their only previous encounter in Vancouver in 2014.
