Ruben (ATP-193) was not able to reach the second round at Wimbledon. He lost in five sets to the Brazilian Thomas Bellucci (ATP-62).
Ruben survived three qualifying rounds at Wimbledon and reached the main draw for the fourth time. He played three times before against Bellucci, the Brazilian won two of their previous encounters. Ruben got off to a good start on Court 10 and took the first set 6-3. Bellucci, however, did not surrender and won the second set 4-6.
Set three also went to the Brazilian 3-6, but Ruben continued to fight for every point. He took the fourth set 6-1 and forced a decider. Bellucci could serve first and Ruben was not able to force break points. At 6-7 Ruben had to serve again to stay in the match and made some little errors. He saved one matchpoint, but the second was fatal. The fifth set went to Bellucci 6-8.
Ruben has shown at Wimbledon that he is back after his back injury and can leave Wimbledon with his head up high.
