Ruben (ATP-117) failed to reach the second round of the ATP tournament of Pune (India). He saved four match points, but eventually went down after 2 hours and 41 minutes.
Ruben had to compete against the Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (ATP-124) in the first round. They played each other twice before, and each won one of their previous encounters. Ruben won the first set in Pune with 7-6(4), but Monteiro brought the match back in balance with 3-6.
In an exciting third set, a tiebreak had to bring the decision. Ruben saved three match points and at 7-7 Monteiro injured his ankle. He got an injury time out and at the fifth match point it was ultimately the Brazilian who won the third set tiebreak 8-10.
