Ruben causes upset and Belgium leads Hungary 2-0

After day one, Belgium leads Hungary 2-0 in the Davis Cup. Ruben (ATP-120) gave Belgium the first point, he beat the Hungarian number one Marton Fucsovics (ATP-63) in four sets.

In the first game, Ruben was immediately under pressure. He made an ugly fall and had to save four break points. He managed to keep his service, regained his composure and broke the service of the Hungarian number one: 3-1. Fucsovics, however, battled back and managed to force a rebreak. At 5-4, Fucsovics had to serve to stay in the set, Ruben put his opponent under pressure, forced set points and was lucky on the third: 6-4!

In the second set, both players were equally matched. At 4-3 Ruben got a break point, but he could not convert it. After that, he was broken and Fucsovics took three games in a row and captured the set 4-6.

Also some small mistakes from Ruben in the beginning of the third set, but he still managed to keep his serve. A tiebreak had to bring the decision and Ruben served very strong. He got a 6-2 lead, Fucsovics came back to 6-5 but on his own serve, Ruben got the set: 7-6(5).

In the fourth set the Belgian could not convert two break chances in the third game, but later he got the break. With an ace, Ruben confirmed the break, and he went up 4-2. At 4-3 Fucsovics made a nasty fall, the Hungarian was already suffering on his knee afterwards. At 5-3, the Hungarian had to serve to stay in the set, Ruben went up 0-40 and got three match points. Ruben won the match at the second matchpoint.

Ruben was very happy with his level: "I feel good here, I have continued my level of Australia, I had to play aggressively, go for my chances, and I succeeded. Thanks to the public who was right behind me". Later, David Goffin (ATP-7) also won the second match against Attila Balazs (ATP-227).
