Ruben (ATP-171) needs to win one more match in order to reach the main draw of Wimbledon (Great Britain, Grand Slam). The Belgian beat the Australian Akira Santillan (ATP-238) in three close sets.
Ruben and Santillan had a very exciting encounter in the second qualifying round of Wimbledon. The Belgian was leading 5-3 in the first set, but Santillan came back and grabbed the set in the tiebreak with 6-7 (5). In the second set Ruben created another gap, this time he maintained the advantage and won the set with 6-3.
In the third set, both players were evenly matched again. Ruben saved two match points and was able to force the decisive break at 10-10. The Belgian then served it out and took set three with 12-10. In the deciding qualifying round Ruben will face American Donald Young (ATP-200).
Santillan digested the defeat badly, he isolated himself in Roehampton and destroyed all his rackets.
