Because of the late withdrawal of Kei Nishikori (ATP-25), Ruben (ATP-113) was picked up for the main draw of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. As a lucky loser he he was allowed to start immediately in the second round against the Argentinian Leonardo Mayer (ATP-47).
Mayer played a very strong match, and offered Ruben few chances. One break was sufficient for the Argentinian to win the first set with 4-6. In the second set, Ruben served less strongly, Mayer took advantage and also won set two with 1-6. The match lasted one hour.
